A charming cottage for a family, friends and three canine chums – find lakeside strolls along Bassenthwaite, hikes up Dodd Fell and bike trails at Whinlatter on the doorstep.
This chocolate-box stone cottage has an idyllic setting overlooking Bassenthwaite Lake. The area is awash with spectacular dog walks to explore with your canine buddies, from waterside strolls to an exhilarating climb to the summit of Skiddaw. You’ll also be just 3.5 miles from Keswick, the adventure capital of the Lakes. The traditional cottage has a cosy wood burner and a fabulous mature garden, where you can relax on the terrace and take in the stunning mountainous scenery.
A warm welcome awaits you in this cute holiday home. The simple decor, floral fabrics and traditional furniture are in keeping with the style of the property and, through the cottage-style windows, you’ll be treated to picture-postcard lake and fell views. The spacious utility room is perfect for storing all your muddy dog-walking gear and, from here, you enter the light and bright kitchen. Rustle up a tasty dinner, which you can all enjoy together in the characterful dining room. With its roaring wood burner, this is a good place for the pups’ beds. The three pretty bedrooms are located on the first floor, and all have fabulous rural views. Outside, discover a mature garden, with a large lawn for the woofers to play on. Beyond the garden is a path through the woodlands, leading to Skiddaw.
The route from the cottage to Skiddaw takes you via Dodd Fell, meaning you and the hounds don’t have to go on the road to appreciate the magic and beauty of the iconic mountain. From its summit, expect unrivalled, panoramic views over Bassenthwaite and its neighbouring fells. For something a little less strenuous, head to Mirehouse and Gardens (0.5 miles). Enjoy an on-lead ramble through the 17th-century gardens, followed by refreshments in the outdoor area of the delightful cafe.
