Sleeping six guests across three bedrooms, this dog-friendly property in the heart of Eskdale village is ideal for families who enjoy a quiet location surrounded by an unspoilt natural landscape.

Experience a home-away-from home stay in this chocolate-box cottage on the western side of the Lake District National Park. As well as having fabulous walking opportunities within easy reach (including Scafell Pike, 9.5 miles), you’ll also be just 9.5 miles from the coast, where you’ll find paw-friendly beaches and windswept scenery. The cottage has ample room for friends and family to spread out, including a cosy snug where you can curl up with a book. The hounds will adore the outside space, with a rustic, mature garden to sniff and explore.

Leave your walking boots on the porch and step inside the stone cottage to discover a warm and inviting holiday home, with country cottage-style interiors and pretty soft furnishings. After a busy day outdoors, get cosy in the charming lounge, which has original features and a warming wood burner (which the hounds will love snoozing in front of!). Watch the SkyTV/DVD or challenge your fellow guests to a game on the Nintendo Wii. Alternatively, sneak away to the snug for 5 minutes’ peace. Two double bedrooms and one twin await when it’s time to rest up. Outside, the enclosed garden is the ideal playground for your four-legged friends, with rugged paths, sloping lawns and mature trees and shrubs to investigate. Meanwhile, you can relax on the patio and soak up the peace and tranquillity.

Just 0.5 miles away is the adorably named Giggle Alley Forest. This secluded spot is perfect for a little pre-breakfast dog walk amongst the trees, admiring the fascinating Japanese garden and looking out for red squirrels. For something a bit different, take the pups for a jaunt on the La’al Ratty steam train (0.5 miles). The train chugs through the most magical landscape, taking you to the quaint coastal village of Ravenglass.

Cottage is in a lovely area. Two very nice dog friendly pubs within easy walking distance. The cottage was comfortable and very well equipped. If you are taking dogs make sure you have thier tick treatment up to date as our dogs picked up a few.

We had a lovely two weeks, location is perfect and The Bower House pub is wonderful and just a short walk away (torch at night though). Seascale Beach is only 7 miles away and its empty and beautiful. Wastwater is not to far with its stunning landscape and at the foot of Scafell Pike. A shop in the village. The garden is large but if you have any mRead moreobility issues its a little higgledy piggledy with very uneven steps. Although there are concrete steps at the back they are very high and steep. The location of the cottage is great for walkers. It would be a bit small for six people, having only one bathroom, but fine for four of us.. It is disappointing that there is no Aga any more as it is still featured on the website.
